Judging by the name, one might think that this variety is a red version of the more commonly occurring variety ‘Sarah Bernardt,’ but that is not the case. The two varieties actually have nothing to do with each other, oddly enough. We also do not think the variety is red, but rather cerise-colored. In any case, we think it is incredibly beautiful and really has its place in the garden. It blooms abundantly and provides strong stems, which are two recurring features among our peony varieties. We simply appreciate being able to enjoy the peonies both outdoors in the garden and also to bring them in as cut flowers.
